In Memory
On Saturday, December 3rd, 2005, the family and friends of Kathleen D.(Sis) Reid lost a treasured wife,mother,sister,aunt and true friend. Our community lost a dedicated and loyal citizen who despite her physical infirmities worked tirelessly on behalf of the people of Bell Island. The Bell Island Figure Skating Club lost one of the corner stones of its entire foundation.
Sis Reid was an anomaly. She was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis at the age of 14. Pain and aches were a part of her everyday life. She had numerous surgeries however she never allowed any of her physical ailments to get in her way. She was a powerhouse of energy and commitment. If Sis Reid served on your committee then,that committee had 100% of her efforts. If you sat across from her at a meeting table,her very presence made you want to do your best.
Sis had an ardent love for the sport of Figure Skating. As a volunteer,it would certainly be accurate to say that the Bell Island Figure Skating Club was Sis' true love. An outline of her involvement with this club,as well as,Newfoundland Section consisted of:
*   1979-1995 club secretary

*   1981-1983 NST director,test chairman

*   1986-1990 CFSA test chair

*   1988-1996 Section Recreation Chairman

*   Resident expert on skating

*   Sis knew every skater by name as well as level

*   Kept parent body informed through bi-weekly newsletter

*   Chaired and worked on ice shows,helped host regional and interclub competitions

*   She worked in accounting rooms during competitions to help her to understand procedure
Sis' tremendous work did not go unnoticed by those in the hierarchy of the figure skating world or the people of her beloved island. In 1994,she received the prestigious Canadian Figure Skating Association Section Volunteer of the Year Award. Then in 1995,she was inducted into the Bell Island Sports Hall of Fame.

Sis Reid was always there for this club. Long after she had officially stopped coming to the rink, she was available to answer a question or to lend support wherever needed. Her expertise was readily available,if the need arose,particularly at competition time or getting ready for the Ice Show.
